Cydney Lawson is a very talented writer and Wingless totally had me hooked. You'll absolutely love this book if you get it!!
I was hooked from the moment I started. The characters seem like real people, and you feel every emotion along with them. It has a beautiful and unique plot, and really gets you think about what is out there. The ending made me want to read the sequel immediately, and I zipped through the whole book as fast as I could. The idea was incredible, and I would recommend this book to everyone!!
This truly original story unravels through the shifting point of view, which takes the reader on a journey through the eyes of the three main characters. Interesting and empathetic, the characters are fully realised through artful use of realistic dialogue and compelling narrative. In particular the author shows great talent in her capturing the other-worldliness of the heavenly beings Tane and Guis; through their eyes the most mundane detail of everyday life becomes strange and new, described in exquisite detail. Tane's speech and narrative voice is both musical and at times unnerving, giving a real sense of her not being a mere human,causing the reader to ask questions about the ideas of heaven, human nature and what it is to be human. The world the characters inhabit is described in detail which embraces all senses; sight, sound, smell, touch and taste, conjuring a world that is both magical and yet grounded in reality. The reader is impelled through the story to its shocking climax and a cliff-hanger ending that leaves the reader wanting more. A pleasure to read. I can't wait to read the next installment.
Wingless may be one of the most unique angel type books I have read or even heard about. The lore is completely different from anything I have come across and it made it a real page turner. When I read that it all begins with a naked girl falling from the sky and landing on a teenage boys lawn, I kind of assumed it would be a typical paranormal romance, when really it is the farthest thing from it. It did take me a little bit to get into the story, but I attribute that to reading it the first week my kiddos started school and the mad dash between schools and mom's groups wore me out. I am so excited to see where this story goes from here. I have my guesses, but most of the ones I had in the beginning turned out wrong, so who know.
